Women have had an important role in cider making throughout history. And they still have, of course.
I know some cider houses in the Basque Country ran by women, being Zelaia Sagardotegia one of the most representative, with three sisters who have taken the leadership of family production. I do know several cases around the world too, like Rozavern, Armagh Cider Company and Little Pomona, among others.
The Sagardoetxea Basque Cider Museum is holding an exhibition revealing the role of women in the heritage linked to the production of cider, along with their contribution to the transmission and preservation of the various aspects related to it.
Don’t you think it would be great to take a census of cider houses led by women? What cases do you know?
